SPEKTRUM at ASP
An audiovisual installation by biøs and Jakub Stelmach, exploring the relationships between light, sound and space.
The title refers to the notion of the spectrum — understood both as the spectrum of light and the range of sound frequencies, and as a space of fluid transitions between phenomena. The installation is based on custom light objects resembling devices with a defined function, though in fact devoid of one. Their mutual relations suggest the existence of a system whose logic remains ambiguous and cannot be fully grasped. During the performance the artists enter into dialogue with it, shifting the tensions within its structure and continually redefining the relationships between light, sound and space.
The performative actions do not consist in controlling the installation in the traditional sense, but in disturbing it, modifying it and momentarily taking over the processes occurring within it. This intervention becomes a metaphor for the human relationship with the systems we co-create — technological, social or ecological. Humans rarely remain passive towards them: our presence can be a condition of their functioning, yet just as often it leads to unpredictable consequences, gradual destabilisation or destruction.
SPEKTRUM offers no single interpretation nor a defined function for its objects. Instead it builds an environment in which meanings remain fluid. Sound may be perceived as light, light as architecture, architecture as an instrument, and the object itself as an element of a larger process. The emphasis constantly shifts between medium, space and action, blurring the boundaries between them. The installation does not present a finished system — rather it reveals its fragility and the constant negotiation between order and disturbance.
