Workshop #2: Building a Simple Monochord at ASP

Workshops held in English.

During this hands-on workshop participants will build a simple monochord that will become a starting point for further sound experiments. The instrument will be used as a sound source and connected to software and smartphone sensors, enabling live sound processing and the creation of interactive compositions. The string can be excited in various ways — with an E-bow, a violin bow or by plucking — revealing a broad spectrum of sonic possibilities. No prior experience is required. The minimum dimensions of the monochord are 30 × 10 × 10 cm.

Technical Requirements / What to Bring? 

• Computer with Ableton or Max/MSP software installed
• Audio interface
• MIDI controller
